Terms of Use – LockBox: Private Vault

Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") carefully before using the LockBox mobile application ("App"). By downloading, accessing, or using LockBox, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. About LockBox

LockBox ("LockBox: Private Vault" in the App Store) is a privacy-focused vault application that allows users to store photos, videos, documents, and other files securely on their own device.

LockBox operates entirely offline and does not provide cloud storage or server-side data processing. LockBox includes an optional encrypted backup export feature that creates a password-protected `.lockbox` file on your device. This file does not leave your device unless you choose to share or transfer it yourself.

2. User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your passwords, passcodes, and authentication methods
  • Remembering your vault passwords (including any fake or secondary passwords)
  • Creating and maintaining backups of your data if desired

⚠️ Important: LockBox uses strong encryption. If you forget your password, your data cannot be recovered. We do not have access to your passwords or encrypted content.

3. Security & Encryption Disclaimer

LockBox uses industry-standard encryption techniques to protect your data stored within the App.

However:

  • No security system is completely foolproof
  • Encryption does not guarantee absolute protection against all possible threats
  • Use of the App is at your own risk

LockBox does not guarantee that unauthorized access, data loss, or corruption will never occur.

4. Fake Vault Feature

LockBox may offer a "fake vault" or decoy access feature for privacy purposes.

You acknowledge that:

  • The fake vault is intended solely as a privacy aid
  • It may contain limited or no data
  • It does not provide additional security guarantees beyond its intended design

5. Data Storage & Loss

All data stored in LockBox resides locally on your device unless otherwise stated.

LockBox is not responsible for:

  • Data loss due to device damage, loss, theft, or OS updates
  • App deletion or device reset
  • Forgotten passwords or authentication credentials
  • User actions such as deleting or overwriting files

6. Subscriptions & Purchases

LockBox may offer premium features through in-app purchases or subscriptions.

  • Payments are processed by Apple via your App Store account
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Refunds and billing issues are governed by Apple's App Store policies

LockBox does not directly handle payments or refunds.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

LockBox and its developer shall not be liable for:

  • Any loss of data
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Any loss resulting from use or inability to use the App

Total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App or its subscriptions.

8. Termination

You may stop using LockBox at any time by deleting the App.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any part of it at any time without notice.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

Continued use of LockBox after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.
